Meeting with the UN chief, PM Phuc affirmed that Viet Nam attaches special importance to its cooperative relations with the UN, and pledges to strengthen its engagement and contribution to the UN’s common affairs.
Viet Nam wishes to join other countries to promote the central role of the UN, especially in maintaining international peace and security, as well as promoting cooperation for sustainable development, he said.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres emphasized the UN’s appreciation for the Vietnamese Government’s efforts, affirming that Viet Nam is the organization’s top priority in the region concerning the implementation of the goals set in the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
He added that the UN’s economic committees will coordinate and support Viet Nam to successfully realize the Viet Nam – UN Joint One Strategic Plan (OSP) for the 2017-2021 period, thus contributing to the fulfilment of sustainable development goals.
Discussing regional issues, the two sides agreed to support and promote the peaceful settlement of the East Sea disputes in line with international laws, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), calling on ASEAN and China to soon finalize a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

During his meeting with PM Phuc, EC President Donald Tusk extended his condolences to the families of Typhoon Damrey victims in Viet Nam, expressing the EU’s willingness to support Viet Nam to overcome the consequences left by the storm.
Both sides spoke highly of the active developments in the Viet Nam-European Union comprehensive cooperative partnership, whilst agreeing to further efforts, aiming to extensively develop bilateral ties, especially in fostering close cooperation within the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting and the ASEAN-EU forums.
PM Phuc asked the EC to soon sign and ratify the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement and provide continuous support for Viet Nam in the fields of education-training, science-technology, and climate change adaptation.
On the occasion, PM Phuc extended his invitation to EC President Donald Tusk to pay an official visit to Viet Nam in the future.
