Workshops and Classes
One of the newest additions to the DAAC program is the multiday intensive art workshops taught by local and regional artists. The first workshop, “Fracturing Technique in Oil or Acrylic,” will be taught by Julie Ford Oliver on January 11th and 12th. The workshop will cost $200 for two days, with a discount available for current DAAC members.
Get ArtRageous! classes will continue on Wednesday evenings in January. Each week, a local artist will teach a new technique, and the class fee of $30 includes all materials and light refreshments. The class will begin at 5:30 pm and last two hours. A new session may also be added as needed.
The first Feed Your Mind seminar of the year will begin on January 28th and run for six weeks on Monday evenings. Led by UTEP Art History Instructor Kathleen Key, the seminar will focus on artists from countries around the world who embraced the Impressionist style. A separate Thursday afternoon seminar will also be offered on “The History of Women in Art.” Classes are $20 per session, or $60 for the full six-week course.
The DAAC will also hold its monthly Promoting Art presentation on January 25th. This month, Rebecca Courtney, chair of the City of Las Cruces Art Board, will present information about the process for drafting a new public art plan. These monthly programs are free and open to the public.
Gallery Exhibits
Finally, the Doña Ana Arts Council will exhibit the work of Sonya Fe in the Arts & Cultural Center in January. Her art will be featured at the monthly Second Saturday 10–10 Arts Hop on January 12th. Six galleries will be open for the Arts Hop, giving art lovers a leisurely day to explore the galleries and stop for lunch or dinner at nearby restaurants.
Don’t miss out on these exciting events in January. Register now to reserve your spot and embrace the new year with the Doña Ana Arts Council.
